節分は、今は2月3日で定着していますが、「季節を分ける」ことを意味する言葉です。
季節の始まりの日である[立春 ・立夏・立秋・立冬]の前日が季節の変わり目にあたり、節分でした。
古くは立春が新年の始まりだったため、立春の前日である節分が大晦日でした。節分は新年に向け、厄災や穢れをお祓いする行事が行われました。その1つが鬼払いです。
鬼払いとは、
自然災害や疫病や飢饉など恐ろしい出来事は[鬼の仕業]ととらえており、
その鬼に邪気を払う力があると考えられていた大豆を投げつけ、[目に見えない邪悪な存在]を鎮めます。

Setsubun, currently celebrated on February 3rd, is a word that means ``separating the seasons.''
The day before the beginning of each season (first day of spring, first summer, first autumn, first winter) marks the change of seasons, and it was Setsubun.
In ancient times, the first day of spring marked the beginning of the new year, so New Year's Eve was setsubun, the day before the first day of spring. Setsubun is an event to ward off misfortune and
impurity in preparation for the new year. One of them is demon exorcism.
What is demon exorcism?
Horrible events such as natural disasters, epidemics, and famine are considered to be the work of demons.
Soybeans, which were believed to have the power to ward off evil spirits, are thrown at the demon to quell the invisible evil presence.
